Cool the Store... and nothing more.

Electricity is too precious to waste!

For the sake of cleaner air and energy conservation, we're asking local stores and restaurants to put an end to the wasteful practice of air conditioning all of Ontario.

While we're at it, let's get behind those stores and restaurants that keep the door and windows closed to save electricity in the summer heat!

Help us by handing out posters to your neighbourhood stores and restaurants, by congratulating and supporting the ones that keep the door closed when the air conditioner is running, and by asking the others to consider joining the campaign.

To remember the blackout of August 14, 2003, let's make wasting electricity history!

Participating is easy.
Stores and Restaurants (and office buildings too)

  1. Close all doors and windows when the air conditioner is running.

  2. Print and tape the poster to your door or storefront window to let customers know you are participating in the campaign.

Other Tips

  1. Set your thermostat no lower than 24 degrees Celsius or 75 Fahrenheit (26 degrees is recommended).

  2. Get an energy audit. Contact Cool Shops for details and for more tips.

  3. Download our tips page for small, medium and large stores.

Add your logo
Companies, groups, or municipalities can add their logo to the poster if they commit to contacting stores and restaurants.

You can post a PDF file on your own website and promote the link to your members.

For a print run, 500 posters is our minimum order.

To order personalized posters, contact Allegra Newman, Outreach Coordinator at research@greenontario.org.

Doors Closed is Closed!

The campaign is over for 2005.

Over 5,000 posters were distributed by 24 organizations in 15 communities (see list on page eight).  Five municipalities signed up, as did two chambers of commerce.  The poster was translated into French, Mandarin and Cantonese, and Portuguese.

Click here for a full report on the campaign.

Our thanks to all those who helped, and we will start again next spring!
